The Purpose of this Module is:
To look at what constitutes a balanced, constructive and productive partnership between the board chair, the board, and the head of school. This partnership is essential to the well-being, motivation and success of students, teachers and administrators.
What Constitutes Good Governance and International School Performance
Areas to be covered and discussed include:
• The balance of strategic and operational roles and responsibilities
• The Head as the CEO
• The Head as the board’s employee
• The Board Chair / Head Relationship
• Understanding the complexities of the Head’s role
• Conflict resolution and arbitration
• Board succession
How to Monitor School Performance
This part of the workshop will look at the role of the international school board in ensuring that the school lives up to its mission statement, strategic goals and achieve highest possible standards.
Areas to be covered and discussed include:
• Living the mission and vision
• Cross cultural awareness
• Commitment to global citizenship and global issues
• External/internal stakeholders
• Accreditations and authorizations
• Benchmarking
• Health and safety – balancing local regulations and norms to international school expectations
How to Monitor and Evaluate Board Performance
This session examines the roles and responsibilities of the board chair, the board, and board committees and task forces, and the tools used for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
